It is a simple, elegant solution to deliver constant current for a single LED string. The driver can support off-board LED connections with long cables. The TPS92612 device can be used as a general constant-current source or current limiter in other applications. With LEDs being widely used as a light source, simple LED drivers are more and more popular. Compared to discrete solutions, a low-cost monolithic solution lowers system-level component counts and significantly improves current accuracy and reliability.

  • Single-channel high-precision current source:
    • Current accuracy: ±4.6% (-40°C to +125°C)
    • Current adjustable by an external sense resistor
    • Max. current: up to 150 m
  • Wide input-voltage range: 4.5 V to 40 V
  • Brightness control by input PWM duty cycle
  • Supports heat sharing with an external resistor
  • Low dropout voltage (current-sense voltage drop included):
    • Max. dropout: 150 mV at 10 mA, 400 mV at 70 mA, and 700 mV at 150 mA
  • Operating junction temperature range: -40°C to +150°C
  • Low quiescent current: 200 µA (typ.)
  • LED short-circuit protection with auto-recovery and thermal shutdown
