Image of NKK's IS-ENG-KIT-x SmartDisplay Engineering KitsThe SmartDisplay from NKK Switches is a space-saving, dynamic, multi-function device, combining the functionality of an electromechanical pushbutton or rocker switch with a graphic programmable OLED or LCD display. A wide array of SmartDisplay products are available from full-screen OLED to compact LCD. IS-ENG-KIT-x engineering kits are designed to accelerate the incorporation of the SmartDisplay family of products into real-world applications by not only familiarizing design engineers to the SmartDisplay products, but also as a development platform for experimentation and design viability testing. The controllers used for OLED SmartDisplays are the S02L1 or the S02L2. These displays are driven by a combination of Microchip 8-bit MCU’s and analog products. Both communicate to the Microchip PIC18F46K40 microcontroller over USB. The S02L2 also allows serial UART communication to the Microchip PIC18F46K40 microcontroller via the MCP2200 USB 2.0 to UART converter. Power to the boards is monitored by Microchip’s MIC803 microprocessor supervisor circuit. SmartDisplays are suitable for a wide variety of applications including industrial, IoT, military, broadcasting, and any other HMI/control.

Engineering Kit Features
  • Controls up to two OLED SmartDisplays or one OLED rocker
  • 16 MB on-board NOR Flash memory to store images, attributes or any other information
  • Serial communication via USB (115.2 K, one start bit, 8-bit, and one stop bit)
  • Additional serial communication via UART connector available on S02L2 for microcontroller interface
  • Auxiliary port with seven I/O pins of the microcontroller to control/sense other applications
  • Stand alone or real-time operation
  • Preprogrammed for basic operation
  • Reports via USB the switch closures and releases, timer expirations, and addresses of the images displayed
  • Programmable for changing the displayed images based on switch actuations and user-defined timers
  • Schematics and firmware are provided for user firmware customization
  • User can program the engineering kits using a PICKIT3 debugger, MPLAB X software, and pin adaptor
  • Power specs: 3.5 V to 5.5 V
  • Maximum current: 150 mA at 5 VDC
  • Can be powered either by USB or by optional 5 V power connection (0.100” spacing)

  • Operating voltage range: ‘F’ version (2.3 V to 5.5 V); low-power ‘LF’ variant (1.8 V to 3.6 V)
  • Temperature range: industrial version (-40°C to +85°C); extended version (-40°C to +125°C)
  • Three 8-bit and four 16-bit timers
  • Programmable two-level interrupt priority
  • Programmable CRC with memory monitoring for data and program reliability
  • 64 KB Flash program memory with self-read/write capability
  • Zero-cross detection for AC signals
  • Two enhanced USART and one master synchronous serial port (I2C,SPI)
  • 10-bit ADC with corruption with automated math functions on input signals
  • 3728 Bytes data SRAM memory
  • 1024 Bytes of EEPROM
