This presentation will provide an overview of power factor, its implications on the power grid, and how legislation to improve power factor impacts the design of equipment that pulls power from AC mains. The presentation will then provide a summary of the two design approaches used to address low power factor in switching power supplies and the tradeoffs of each design approach.
