CY4500 EZ-PD™ Protocol Analyzer
Release Notes

Thank you for your interest in the CY4500 EZ-PD™ Protocol Analyzer. This document lists the Analyzer
contents, installation instructions, and the known limitations.
Analyzer Contents
The CY4500 EZ-PD Protocol Analyzer includes the following:
CY4500 EZ-PD Protocol Analyzer Hardware enclosed in casing (1 no.)
USB 2.0 Type-A to Micro-B Cable (1 no.)
A set of Jumper Wires (6 nos.)
Quick Start Guide (1 no.)
Installation
Installation instructions are provided in the CY4500 EZ-PD Protocol Analyzer Guide which can be
downloaded from http://www.cypress.com/CY4500.
Kit Revision
This is the second release (Rev. *A) of the Analyzer. Following are the differences between the analyzer
revision ** and *A:
New hardware revision (Rev05)
o Revision 5 hardware supports enabling of Type-C terminations (Ra, Rp & Rd) on the CC lines
New features and enhancements in the EZ-PD Analyzer Utility
o Support to enable Type-C terminations (Ra, Rp & Rd). Note that this feature will be functional
only on CY4500 units which are based on Rev05 hardware. This feature can be invoked by
clicking Actions > CC Termination Settings
o Ability to run multiple instances of EZ-PD Analyzer Utility on a given Windows system
(PC/Laptop). PD packet capturing will be done only by one of the instances. The other
instances can be used to open and view the previously captured PD packets which are saved
in .ccgx format
o Display of PD packet count on the status bar
o Support to set the capture limit for the PD packets. The maximum number of PD packets
which can be captured by the utility is 25000. The default capture limit is set to 15000. This
feature can be invoked by clicking Actions > Set Capture Limit…
o Support to select a particular PD packet to be displayed on the Main Panel of the GUI using
the serial number of the PD packet. This feature can be invoked by clicking Actions > Go To
Line…
o Live display of VBUS Voltage and Current values
o Ability to clear all the packet filters in one go (Actions > Clear Filter(s))
o Ability to filter the PD packets using the ‘Status’ field

o Single toggle button on the tool bar for ‘Start Capturing’ and ‘Stop Capturing
Bug Fixes in the EZ-PD Analyzer Utility
o Bug: Firmware upgrade feature does not work after the Windows system (PC/Laptop) wakes
up from sleep
Status: This bug is fixed in EZ-PD Analyzer Utility from version 1.0.0.084 onwards
o Bug: Firmware upgrade feature does not work on a freshly installed Windows System (Win 8
/ Win 8.1/ Win 7/ Win 10)
Status: Microsoft C++ Redistributable package is now included in the CY4500 kit installer to
enable firmware upgrade on such systems
Limitations and Known Issues
Issue: CY4500 EZ-PD Protocol Analyzer does not support decoding of USB PD 3.0 packets. It only
decodes PD packets as per the USB PD Specification Revision 2.0, V1.2
Workaround: None
Fix plan: This issue will be fixed in the future releases of CY4500 EZ-PD Protocol Analyzer
