Frequently Asked Questions

Gerber Files

Why do I need to reupload my Gerber files after my session ends?

If you have not logged in to a MyDigi-Key account, your upload will be lost.

Will my Gerber files be saved?

Yes, your Gerber files will be saved for ordering purposes if you have logged in and complied with ITAR.

What is ITAR?

The International Traffic in Arms Regulations, or ITAR, is a set of government rules that control the export and import of defense-related articles, services, and technology on the U.S. Munitions List (USML).

How do I assign layers?

Once your Gerber files have been uploaded, you will be able to assign each file to a board layer, drill file, etc. via multiple drop-down menus.

Shipping and Delivery

When can I expect the board to be delivered?

This varies from board house to board house, so make sure to check estimated shipping times when completing your order. Some of our partners offer expedited shipping as well!

What is the difference between fabrication time and ship time?

Fabrication time is the time required for the board house to fulfill the needs and requirements necessary to build your order. Ship time is the time required to ship the finished product to you via your chosen shipping method.

Board House

Will a board house contact me if there is a problem?

Yes, this is common. If the board house has any questions they will contact you via the Digi-Key website and you will receive an email notification.

How will a board house contact me? How can I respond?

All communication with the board house will be conducted on the "Review Order" page related to the order. An email notification with a direct link will be sent whenever a message is waiting for you.

Will a board house run a DFM check on my Gerber files?

Yes, our board houses always run a DFM check on your Gerber files and will contact you if they encounter any issues or have any questions.

What happens if a board house rejects my order?

Don’t be discouraged! This is done to help protect you from any significant issues relating to board layouts, quantities, or other potential issues and help us find you the right solution for your design. If your board is rejected, please correct the file and re-upload.

My Orders

How do I view submitted orders?

You can view your current and previous orders by logging into MyDigi-Key and visiting "Order History."

Can I reorder a previous purchase?

Unfortunately, this option is currently not available. We are working to add this feature in the future.

General

What are the minimum trace and minimum space requirements?

The minimum trace and space requirements vary slightly from board house to board house. The limits are listed in the Standard Board House Specifications table in the Getting Started section of this document. Double check your design to ensure you have met any minimum requirements.

What is the maximum number of layers I can order?

The most current version of PCB builder accepts up to six layers. This could increase in future versions.

Will there be a DFM check before I submit my files to a board house?

No. You’ll be able to look at individual layers after upload and we do a quick check of your board via our Viewer, but please note that this is not a comprehensive DFM check.

Can I check out as a guest user?

You can use our tool as a guest user to get quotes on PCBs, but in order to place an order you’ll need to either log in to an existing MyDigi-Key account or register as a new user.

Can the estimated price from a board house change after I place an order?

It can. Sometimes a board house might ask a question that creates changes in requirements, which can lead to price fluctuation. The estimate you receive during the checkout process is not fixed until the board house approves the order.
