DC DC Converters

Board mount DC DC converters are compact switching modules (switching regulators) soldered or mounted directly onto a printed circuit board that convert one DC voltage to another (higher, lower, or inverted) while often providing regulation, filtering, and if needed isolation. These modules are used in distributed power architectures to efficiently step-down (buck) or step-up (boost) voltages close to the load for improved efficiency.

Types of Converters

  • Isolated Modules - provide galvanic isolation between input and output, essential for safety boundaries, noise immunity, and breaking ground loops.
  • Non-Isolated - cost and efficiency optimized modules where isolation isn’t needed.
  • Linear Regulator Replacement - Drop in switching regulators designed to replace traditional linear regulators.
