About AC DC Desktop, Wall Power Adapters

AC DC desktop, wall power adapters (also called power bricks, wall warts, or AC adapters) are fully enclosed external power units that convert alternating current (AC) from the mains into one or more regulated direct current (DC) outputs. These modules relocate high-voltage conversion outside the primary device or enclosure, simplifying safety, thermal management, and regulatory compliance. These adapters can come with a multitude of input plug/receptacle and output plug configurations.

Adapters of this type are used across consumer, industrial, and instrumentation products. They provide isolated DC power for laptops, test equipment, LED lighting, and medical systems. Products in this family must also conform to specific regional minimum efficiencies such as DoE Level VI or EU CoC, as well as low standby power thresholds.

Styles of adapters
  • Desktop (brick) adapters - larger, standalone enclosures with input and output cords connecting to the device.
  • Wall mount adapters - compact adapters with integrated plugin blades (fixed or detachable) that directly mount into AC outlets.
  • Interchangeable blade / multi-region adapters - desktop or wall adapters with a universal input range (85-264 VAC) that allow swapping input cables or plug types (e.g. US, EU, UK, AU) for global deployment.
