Grid-EYE® Infrared Array Sensor

Panasonic’s Grid-EYE® is an 8 x 8 (64) pixel infrared array sensor. This sensor offers digital output (I2C) for thermal presence, direction, and temperature values. The built-in lens includes a 60-degree viewing angle. The Grid-EYE features compact SMD design using MEMS thermopile technology.

Applications include: digital signage, security, lighting control, kiosk/ATM, medical imaging, automatic doors, thermal mapping, people counting, robotics, and more.

Panasonic announces the availability of the Grid-EYE infrared array sensor unit. The Grid-EYE unit combines four Grid-EYE infrared array sensors to increase the detection area up to 3.8 m2. The Grid-EYE unit comes preloaded with firmware capable of detection and counting up to eight people within an area, and while they are in this area it can track their direction of movement. The sensor transmits this information via RS485 using Modbus protocol.

Panasonic’s incredibly thin EX-Z sensors are an ideal solution, over conventional fiber sensor heads, for tight-fitting applications. The EX-Z sensors are offered in two configurations: front sensing and side sensing, with the latter best suited for use in the narrowest of spaces. Despite the extremely small size, these robust sensors can sense an object as small as 0.3 mm without the need for an optional slit mask and both configurations can sense a 1.0 mm object from as far as 500 mm. The EX-Z series sensors are IP67 rated making them suitable for applications susceptible to splashing and a host of others, such as the detection of parts in a parts feeder, the detection of the presence or absence of a test tube tray, and the detection of LED leads.
