Image of NXP's SC18IM704 UART to I²C-Bus BridgeNXP's SC18IM704 is designed to serve as an interface between the standard UART port of a microcontroller or microprocessor and the serial I2C-Bus, allowing the microcontroller or microprocessor to communicate directly with other I2C-Bus devices. The SC18IM704 can operate as an I2C-Bus controller. It controls all the I2C-Bus specific sequences, protocols, arbitration, and timing. The host communicates with the SC18IM704 with ASCII messages protocol, making the control sequences from the host to SC18IM704 very simple.

The SC18IM704-EVB UART-to-I2C serial interface demonstration board is available to demonstrate NXP bridge solutions for serial interface communication between a UART host device and multiple I2C target devices. The modular design allows a simple interface-to-UART port and various I2C target boards through headers.
