ST/ Digi-Key iNEMO™ Student Design Contest OFFICIAL RULES
OVERVIEW
Students who desire to enter the contest must register their intention to participate through the completion and submission of a Contest Registration Form at www.Digi-Key.com/inemo. no later than January 31, 2011 at 12:00 PM, CST. Please note that neither Digi-Key nor the contest Sponsors can be held responsible for any delays or failure to deliver caused by the Internet service provider.
Once the completed Contest Registration Form is received by Digi-Key, a Registration Number will be assigned. The Registration Number will be communicated back to the contestant via e-mail. (Please note that any incomplete, illegible or defaced Contest Registration Forms will be rejected without any notification to the contestant.) Subject to student verification.
The project subsequently submitted must utilize the ST iNEMO™ kit, P/N INEMO-ND to address an application such as Human Machine Interface, Robotics, Portable Navigation Devices, gaming and sports, remote monitoring of industrial equipments, patient monitoring (home care or aging), risk and/or hazardous professions, and more. The object/executable code must be able to be recreated by a third party.
Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges and assigned a numeric score based upon the criteria specified below. Scores will be ranked from highest to lowest with the relative rankings used to assign prizes for the top three (3) submissions.
STMicroelectronics & Digi-Key will give away three (3) prizes of various values as specified below:
PRIZES
Contest winners will be ranked by their respective scores with the highest ranking score receiving first prize, the second highest score receiving second prize, etc. In the event of a tie, the entry received by Digi-Key first will be declared the winner.
The grand prize is a US$5,000.00 cash prize plus an all expense paid trip for two to Europe to visit our the ST Development Labs, which will include free airfare and 3 nights at a hotel to be determined by STMicroelectronics.
The Second-Place Prize is US$2,500.00 in cash.
The Third-Place is US$1,000.00 in cash.
Any applicable taxes imposed under applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to use or gift taxes, duties or other levies, are the sole and exclusive responsibility of the prize winners.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Each project entered into the contest must be the original work and sole and exclusive property of the individual who submits it; or the contestant must have written, legal permission from the property owner to subject such project.
In the case of a project owned by another party; such written, legal permission must be included with the entry submission.
Entries must be submitted in digital format and must be written in English.
For an entry to be deemed acceptable, the contestant must have first submitted a fully-completed and legible Contest Registration Form that is received by Digi-Key prior to January 31, 2011 at 12:00, CST. That same contestant must have received a Registration Number confirming said receipt and subsequently submitted to Digi-Key a fully completed, signed and dated Contest Entry Form (available at www.Digi-Key.com/INEMO) together with the following files in electronic format:

a. [R]. A block diagram of the overall application;
b. [WA]. A flow diagram of the source code and the overall application;
c. [O]. Explicative pictures.
2. [WA]. Schematic and Gerber file of daughter boards
3. [WA]. Original pictures of 1.C (acceptable formats: JPG, GIF, TIF and EPS)
4. [R]. IDE project with commented source code
5. [O]. A video, in .wmv format. Maximum size: 10 MB

Entry packages consisting of a fully completed signed and dated Contest Entry Form and with the above documentation must be received by Digi-Key no later than April 30, 2011 at 12:00 PM, CST in order to be considered by our panel of judges.
The contestant’s name and address as specified on their Contest Registration Form shall match the name and address listed on their Contest Entry Form. Any prizes subsequently awarded will be shipped to the name and address specified and submitted to Digi-Key.
The application shall be developed using one or more ST iNEMO™ Kit V2 module, P/N STEVAL-MKI062V2. The contestant can develop further daughter board for their specific application, and develop the application using the Software Development Kit (PC application) and/or writing the firmware running on the MCU available in the ST iNEMO™ Kit V2 module
The final application shall be developed using one of the following programming languages: C, C++, C#, Matlab script, Java.
STEVAL-MKI062V2 is a demonstration product only. All contestants are required to read and agree to the
Demo Product License Agreement. Contestant’s use of STEVAL-MKI062V2 shall constitute acceptance of the terms and conditions of the Demo Product License Agreement by the contestant.
Please note that all entrant documentation, data files and any included media submitted to Digi-Key cannot be returned and will become the sole and exclusive property of STMicroelectronics. All contest entry files submitted to Digi-Key, together with the intellectual property contained therein, will be considered to have entered the public domain and can be used by anyone for any purpose from the date of receipt forward.
Any prior print or internet-based publication of ingredients essential to a design concept or a particular entry will not represent grounds for disqualification.
All individuals entering projects in the contest thereby assign to the Sponsors the right to publish their descriptive language as submitted or as edited by the Sponsors, and/or an extract of the submission package (which may or may not include their block diagram, one or more photographs, the schematic or source code) along with the entrant’s name and their city/state of residence as specified in their Contest Entry Form.
Entries can be submitted in one of two ways:
1. Email your completed Contest Entry package, including your signed and dated Contest Entry
Form together with data files listed above to: universitysales@digikey.com.
2. Mail a CD-ROM containing your data files together with any hardcopy materials (such as you signed Contest Entry Form if you are unable to scan this item) to:

Please remember that any print or media materials submitted will not be returned and that neither contest Sponsors can be held responsible for any delays or failure to deliver caused by the U.S. Postal Service or any internet service provider.
As a reminder…Contest Entry packages must be received no later than April 30 2011 at 12:00 PM, CST
in order to be considered.
Note: Please send no hardware with your Contest Entry package. All finalists will be contacted individually for proof of implementation.
JUDGING CRITERIA
All contest entries will be judged by the Contest Administrator and a panel of judges. Scoring is based on the following:
1. Number of Degree Of Freedom used in the application. Two points for each DOF (0-20 points).
2. Firmware/Software quality (optimization) (0-10 points)
3. Relative level of interest to the engineering/hobbyist community (0-15 points)
4. Novelty of developed application (0-15 points)
5. Replicability within the engineering/hobbyist community (0-15 points)
6. Hardware quality/design technique and use of external daughter boards (0-10 points)
7. Ease of use and appeal of user interface (0-15 points)
In the event of a tie, the tied entry received by Digi-Key first will be declared the winner. Contestants agree to abide by the decisions made by the Contest Administrator and the panel of judges, all of which shall be final and binding upon the contestant with respect to any and all issues relating to the contest.
Note: The Contest Administrator and/or panel of judges may require inspection of one or more of the finalists’ hardware and will request same if needed. Please do not send any hardware unless a representative of Digi-Key has specifically notified you that the submission of hardware will be required. In this event, the contestant will bear sole responsibility for shipping and insuring their hardware in transit to the address specified by Digi-Key. Hardware specifically requested for review will be returned to the contestant. If a contestant is subsequently deemed to be a prize winner, then their hardware may be temporarily retained by the Contest Administrator or one or more of the contest Sponsors for additional photography before being returned.
All prizes will be awarded. The total cash value of all prizes is approximately $8,500.00 US. Each of the three winners will be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and Release of Liability prior to being publicly declared a winner. U.S. residents who are declared to be contest winners will be required to comply with all reasonable requests for tax identification through the completion of a Form W-9 before receiving any prize.
Winners will be notified via email on or about June 30th 2011. A list of winners will also be posted at www.Digi-Key.com/INEMO
ELIGIBILITY
In order to be eligible to enter the contest, the entrant must have purchased a ST INEMO™ KIT V2 module and have followed all of the submission guidelines as outlined above. Contestants must be at least 18 years of age as of the date they submit their Contest Registration Form.
Employees of STMicroelectronics or Digi-Key, their affiliates, consultants, distributors, representatives, advertising agents or promotional associates, members of their immediate families or those with whom they are domiciled are not eligible to enter the contest.
In addition, anyone living in a country, province or state in which the contest is prohibited, taxed or otherwise restricted under national, federal, provincial, state or local laws, rules or regulations is ineligible to enter the contest. Contestants who are residents of any country, state or province that prohibits unregistered contests or requires that the Contest Administrator or Sponsors post a bond are ineligible to enter the contest. The Contest Administrator and the Sponsors expressly disclaim any responsibility or liability for any contestant who chooses to enter the contest when it is illegal for them to do so. By entering this contest, contestants agree to waive any additional rights granted with regard to contests by the country, state or province in which they are domiciled.
AWARDING OF PRIZES
Winners will be chosen on or about June 30, 2011. Digi-Key/ST will contact winners within a reasonable amount of time to secure their Affidavits of Eligibility, Releases of Liability and Forms W-9 (where applicable) and arrange for the shipment of their respective prizes. Digi-Key/ST will pay all related shipping charges. If a prize is found to be undeliverable, Digi-Key/ST reserves the right to award that prize to an alternative contestant.
STMicroelectronics is solely responsible for the distribution of all cash and non-cash prizes related to this contest. The winners agree that in signing their Affidavits of Eligibility they are agreeing to all of the terms and conditions stated herein. The winners also agree that Digi-Key/ST cannot be held responsible for what they perceive to be any late shipment of prizes. Any use or gift taxes, duties or other related Federal, State or Local taxes are not included and are the sole responsibility of the winner.
All decisions rendered relative to this contest by the panel of judges, the Contest Administrator and the
Sponsors are final.
GENERAL RULES
Contest rules are subject to change without notice.
Odds of winning depend upon the number of acceptable entries received and the decisions of the Contest Administrator and panel of judges. The Contest Administrator is solely responsible for the payment of all prizes. Upon delivery to the address specified by a prize-winning contestant, the Contest Administrator will be deemed to have awarded that prize to the winner, and the winner concurrently assumes full responsibility for the prize. There will be no substitution for prizes other than as detailed above. Each winner, and not the Sponsors or Contest Administrator, is solely responsible for any taxes or other fees imposed by any government authority. All contestants and winners agree that in signing the Contest
Registration Form and Contest Entry Form they agree to all of the terms and conditions specified herein. Winners will be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility, Release of Liability and a Form W-9 (if applicable) before receiving any prize. Winners will be notified by e-mail on or about Month day, 2011. If a winner fails to respond within 30 days of notification, the Contest Administrator will select an alternate winner.
Prizes are not transferable.
By entering, contestants (a) release the Contest Administrator and Sponsors from any and all liability with respect to the use of entry materials or the prizes awarded herein, (b) agree to be bound by these rules and (c) consent to the use of their names and contact information for marketing purposes without any compensation or notice.
By entering, contestants warrant and represent that (a) the work submitted is their own original work and not the intellectual property of a third party or that the contestant has written, legal permission from the property owner for its use and (b) all information provided by contestant are true, accurate and complete. In the case of work owned by another party; such written, legal permission must be included with the contestant’s entry submission.
By entering, contestants agree to release and hold harmless the Contest Administrator, the Sponsors and each of their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, officers, directors, representatives, agents and employees from any and all liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses or damages of any kind arising from or in connection with, either directly or indirectly 1) the awarding, acceptance, receipt, possession, use and/or misuse of any prize awarded herein; or 2) participation in the contest or any prize related activities. By accepting a prize, remuneration or honorarium; contestants consent to the use of their name, photograph and/or likeness, address, voice and statements made by or attributed to them, in perpetuity, in any and all media now known or hereafter developed (including, without limitation, print, broadcast and internet) for all legitimate business purposes including advertising and promotional activities without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.
Neither the Contest Administrator nor the Sponsors are responsible for incorrect or inaccurate entry of information including, but not limited to, technical malfunctions, human error, lost/delayed data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, line failures of any telephone network, computer equipment, software or any combination thereof, entry materials that have been tampered with or email or mail-in entries that are illegible, late, lost or misdirected.
The Contest Administrator reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend this contest without obligation at any time or if it discovers fraud or any other causes beyond the control of Digi-Key/ST which corrupt or affect the administration, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this promotion.
All hardcopy materials and media submitted will remain the property of the Contest Administrator. All contestants hereby grant the Contest Administrator and Sponsors, under all of their intellectual property rights, a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, royalty free, fully paid up, transferable and sub-licensable license to publish and display in print or electronic format any contest project information submitted in the form of descriptive text, schematics, block or flow diagrams, photographs or source code if their submission receives one of the three (3) prizes.
The terms and conditions of this contest shall be interpreted and governed by the substantive laws of the New York , regardless of its conflict of laws provisions. The contestant further agrees that no claims, judgments or awards shall in any event exceed the amount of the applicable contest prize to which that particular contestant may be entitled and under no circumstances shall include attorney's fees; nor shall any contestant be permitted to obtain awards for punitive, incidental, consequential or other similar damages or have any damage awards multiplied or increased for any reason.
