Addional RoHS Information:
Digi-Key Corporation supports the REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals Regulation) objective and is actively surveying our suppliers and product to gain awareness of any substances of very high concern (SVHC).
Digi-Key Corporation, a distributor of electronic components, supplies and equipment, is fully aware of and supports the REACH initiative. REACH consists of European chemical legislation that is applicable in all 27 EU member states, as well as the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and European Economic Area (EEA) countries Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland . REACH creates a system for gathering information to assess risks to human health and the environment, and authorize or restrict the marketing and use of chemicals produced or supplied in the EEA. REACH has an impact on the EEA producer's importers and distributors, as well as users of chemicals in the course of industrial or professional activities. Requirements are phased and will be applicable over several years.
Digi-Key Corporation will display REACH status icons and dates to indicate when the product was identified as being REACH supportive. The icons and explanation of the REACH statuses are explained below. A status date alongside the icon will be noted when applicable.
REACH Unaffected – The product and its packaging does not contain any substances of very high concern as identified by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
REACH Affected – The product does contain a substance of very high concern as identified by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and may require consideration prior to ordering this part.
N/A REACH – The product has not yet been classed for REACH status.
Digi-Key Corporation distributes a very wide selection of products, and not all the products we sell has a REACH status at this time. Customers must take an active role in understanding environmental compliance of product and selecting products accordingly.
In April of 2010, Digi-Key Corporation made the decision to cease production of its paper catalog. In 2008, Digi-Key Corporation printed 4.5 million catalogs. At 4.5 lbs. per catalog, this has reduced paper usage by 20,250,000 lbs., and in turn reduced tree consumption by over 172,000 each year. In place of the paper catalog, we now offer our user-friendly Online Catalog. The Online Catalog is updated daily, providing our customers up-to-the-minute access to the latest products available at Digi-Key.
Digi-Key Corporation is actively surveying our supply chain and currently has not confirmed any "conflict minerals", as defined in "Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, as well as California Senate Bill 861" in our supply chain. "Conflict materials" are defined as using materials from the Democratic Republic of the Congo or any adjoining countries (“DRC Countries”) in the manufacture
"Conflict Minerals" include: 1) columbite-tantalite, also known as coltan (the metal ore from which tantalum is extracted); 2) cassiterite (the metal ore from which tin is extracted); 3) gold; 4) wolframite (the metal ore from which tungsten is extracted); 5) their derivatives; or 6) any other mineral or its derivatives determined by the Secretary of State to be financing conflict in the DRC Countries.
Digi-Key makes every effort to constantly audit our supply chain to assure our customers that our products contain no conflict materials.
Smart Packaging/Environmental Packaging
In 2008, Digi-Key was working to overcome challenges associated with incredible business growth - a great challenge to have, but one that needed to be conquered. One of these challenges was package size. Our most popular box size was a 9" X 9" X 4". It would typically work for around 65% of our orders, gave great package security strength, and had next to zero claim frequency. There were some apprehensions, however,
The answer was yes. Working with our corrugated supplier, we were able to create a box that could be shipped anywhere in the world, still maintained our package integrity, yet was reduced to a dimension of
Digi-Key also uses a product called Geami for our inner packaging protection. Geami is a sustainable protective packaging solution that is 100% recyclable, compostable and biodegradable, and is SFI certified, as well.
Both the environment and our customers were winners from this initiative, and Digi-Key will continue to improve our efficiency and
Recycle Rechargeable Batteries (USA and Canada only)
Digi-Key recognizes the effect batteries may have on the environment. We have joined forces with the RBRC (Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation) as a means for our customers to obtain more information on recycling their Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH), and Small Sealed Lead* rechargeable batteries.
RBRC maintains a website (www.call2recycle.org) and two "hotline" phone numbers (800-8-BATTERY [800-822-8837] and 877-2-RECYCLE [877-273-2925]) where residents can find a location to bring rechargeable batteries for recycling.

Green Mug Program
Through Digi-Key's continued efforts to reduce its use of plastic, we have a mug program for new employees. Every employee receives a new mug when they begin their career with Digi-Key. Each break room comes equipped with multiple ice and water machines. Instead of purchasing a bottle of water, employees have the option of filling their mug with either water or coffee without having to use a plastic bottle or disposable cup. With 2,500 employees, this is a significant amount of plastic and Styrofoam that is kept out of landfills.
