I bought a new scope. I want to test it out, on Friday, at my work place. And, I want to test it on one of our KB Electronics, Inc 1 hp, SCR controllers, because they are quite simple comparitively speaking. They normally output FLA 14 ampere. And, the output is 90 Volts. I want another load (besides a 1 hp motor) that is not too expensive and easy to get, and safer and less complicated than a resistor (that would have to be high in wattage). Although, a good resistor is a possibility. What can I use as a load? I am going to use a light bulb if I can not find something better.
A light bulb is the perfect answer for your load. Be very careful to isolate your scope with an isolation transformer if you are working on 110VAC, an use caution you don't get shocked.

I've got an isolation transformer. I am not sure if I should isolate the scope or the circuit under test. It is either way, I suppose. -RK
By the way, the output for the scr contoller is 90 v DC. Do you still think an ordinary light bulb will work well?
Yes, the bulb will work fine. As to the isolation, I think I've always isolated the scope - but I'm not sure why.
BTW: 90 V x 14 A = 1,260 W - a pretty big light bulb, but you don't have to run at full load.
