Distance measurement

Hello, new here.

I need a simple sensor that can measure distance in small area (max of 3-4 meters).

I prefer a sensor with two parts. the reciving part and transmiting part where the reciving part can get signals from the other part for 3-4 meters.

I'd suggest an ultrasonic distance sensor, such as the Parralax Ping Sensor which can measure up to 3m distances.

    Check the link above for a PDF file with some instructions from the manufacturer on how to use the sensor. It is pretty specific for use with their Basic Stamp module, but it does provide some insight on how to use the sensor, and you could definitely use it with other circuits or microcontrollers.

    Hi, I have the Ping Sensor on a Boebot kit from Parallax. It works pretty nice. Just three connections to an MCU like an Arduino and there is allot of code already written to make it easy to use.

Sharp makes a nice little IR sensor for that range, the Sharp GP2Y0A710K0F IR Range Sensor - 100 to 550cm .

It's not quite what you are asking for, but one solution. Digi-Key doesn't seem to carry it, but Robot Shop looks like they might have some.
