need parts for headphone output for an LCD TV with no outputs at all

Greetings. I need to add a headphones output to an LCD TV with no outputs at all. TV has 2 5W 8Ohm speakers; no common ground between them (cannot connect headphones directly). I was advised to connect headphones through an isolation transformer. I found one by Triad Magnetics, part TY-145P. I am also lookig for a headphones jack with built in switches, 2 NC and 2NO, 3.5 mm

I would appreciate any advise on the subject; having a confirmation that I picked the right transformer would be very helpful. Also if someone can recommend a jack I need, that would be fantastic.

Thank you

Vlad

    Vlad,

The simplest (and safest) way to add headphones to your set would be to find an old VCR and run your cable (tv signal) to it and a jumper coax from VCR to TV.  This would give you functionality of the VCR audio outputs and negate any reason to break into the TV.  An RCA to 3.5mm plug adapter such as AE9916-ND could then be used to bring the channels to one connector.  Or, if you want to change the rca's to a single 3.5mm jack inside a VCR, something like CP1-3513-ND could be used.  If you want to make the changes completely within the television, you will need a pair of isolation transformers (one for each channel) - I think the  TY-145P (Digi-Key part number 237-1121-ND) looks to be fine, provided your headphone impedence is also 8 Ohms (TY-145P is 1:1).
