Hi guys, I have a battery with a rating of 12V 70A, what is the best and simplest way to limit the current to 2A?
Have you tried using a slow blow 2A fuse in series with the load? I think that would work...
The easiest way would be resistors, but the 6Ohm in you case produce quite some power dissipation of 24W which you waste (and heat).
The resistor would limit inrush as well as continous currents though.
If you are looking for an overcurrent protection you may use a fuse as suggested by Lance.
You could also look into PTC Resettable Fuses, there are products that work on 12V, 70A max and Ihold of 2A - if this is the operating current you allow.
You would still need to look at the transient behavior and ambient temperature of the PTC, but even a fuse has I2t you need to consider.
Last but not least you could look into active solutions such as load switches or similar.
