Power Failure

So I have an old Samsung DVD-P270K and it's been functioning well for some time now  but after a rather bad bout of raining it no longer powers on. I'm not sure if lightning had anything to do with it since we didn't get hit or anything. But could static damage it or something?  It is quite old so I was wondering if I could fix it myself or just get a new one.

    Hi there!

You did mention that your player is a bit old, and yes, you might not be able to see it but lightning does damage household appliances in the inner circuitry: so you wouldn't really see anything that would seem damaged like burned parts or what not, but still damaged all the same. Or it could just be naural wear and tear of old equipment. If you had tools, you could start with checking the power supply, if there's nothing wrong there, take an overall assessment, maybe bad solders, or burnt parts, etc. If you don't 'see' anything that could be wrong, my guess is, at this point, it could be better in investing on a new one, rather than have the old one get fixed.
