Kionix KXSS5-4457 Accelerometer Communications

I am looking for information / examples of digital communications with the Kionix KXSS5-4457 accelerometer.  The device operates with either I2C or SPI communications.  At present I'm writing to the device via an Aardvark SPI / I2C host module.  The device is communicating but received data doesn't match expected responses (according to the datasheet).  Specifically, I receive a 64 byte response on an I2C initiated axis read.

On a side note, it is unclear if the analog outputs are active on the device when used with digital communications.  Anyone have experience working with this device?

Any thoughts /  suggestions would be appreciated.
