DxDesigner

Hello,

Will DxDesigner and Designer Schematic projects and / or files be compatible? They don't appear to be at present.

It would be a great convenance if the schematics and symbols / footprints were at the least.

Thanks,

Tom

    DxDesigner

Designer Schematic Symbols are DxDesigner Symbols (Designer Schematic uses properties on the symbol a little bit differently but the formats are identical)

Desginer Footprints are PADS Footprints (identical).

Designer Projects are not comptible with DxDesginer (PADS) projects.

We are enhancing our PADS products so that they will be able to import / export Designer Scheamtic & Layout projects.

The Use cases we are working on:

    • Engineer creates a functional design in Designer Schematic
    • Design is sent to quick-turn design service provider (for layout) => Design Service Provider is using PADS
    • Design Service provider sends the completed design back to the Engineer (to be used in Designer Schematic and Designer Layout)

    • Reference  Designs: Component Manufacturer (or anyone else) creates a reference  design (In either PADS or Designer Schematic + Layout)
    • Reference Design is consumed by Designer Schematic & Layout users

We  are not working on any use cases that intermingle Designer products  with PADS products. Why? From a flow perspective the Designer Schematic  & Layout flow is not the same as a PADS flow. The "differences"  amount to enhancements to improve the Designer Schematic & Layout out of the box ease of use. Easy enough to process as a transition (export / import) but extremly expensive to process dynamically in a mixed tool flow.
