NEW TO DISPLAYS

Dear Gang,

How tough is it to get started with something like the NEWHAVEN 7.0 inch TFT? How much does it cost?

    Hey Papalyle,

That's going to cost you something like $80-$100 and it should look and work well.

As for ease of setup, it seems to me like the cost, quality, and easy of use are all inversely linked.  While these displays are well documented because the manufacturers want their displays to be as easy to use as possible, at the same time, they don't usually do a lot of the legwork, because that would drive up the cost.  So, it looks like you'll need to be fairly well versed in microcontroller operation and will need to spend some time reading the datasheet to figure out the interface.  Also, these typically have connectors that are either not breadboardable (is that a word) or not easily breadboardable, requiring either a custom PCB to interface or some gymnastics.

I think that it would be a great project to maybe start on a smaller one, save some money and slightly reduce the complexity, play with it a bit and then move on to the larger 7" screen once you know what you're doing.

    Good luck and have fun!

    Lance
