I can faintly see image on the display with flashlight but screen has no brightness at all. Laptop was dropped; replaced the power jack and LED display cable. Both were damaged and the left hinge was snapped off and flopping around. The LED cable must have shorted something since the display was working prior to the repairs.
Are you mistaking LED for LCD? An LCD display uses flourescent bulbs to backlight a LCD panel. There are also "hybrid" LCD displays that use LED backlights to illuminate the LCD panel. True LED displays actually have individual LED pixels without the need for a backlight. I have tested LCD displays for faulty backlights with a flashlight before, but I don't think that True LED displays work the same way. My opinion is that the backlight inverter is bad or the bulbs have broken when it was dropped.
