Semiconductor supplier CSR has sold its wireless business unit to Samsung Electronics in a $310 million deal. Samsung will also invest $34.4 million in CSR, buying a 4.9 percent stake in the company.

The deal will include CSR’s Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and location technology, and access to a development team of 310 people, the company reported.

Samsung, based in South Korea, said the deal would strengthen its application processor offerings which are used in smartphones and media tablets including Apple’s iPhone and iPad, as well as Samsung’s Galaxy devices.

CSR, based in Cambridge, England, supplies location-tracking chips for Samsung’s Galaxy phones and tablets and derives about 25 percent of its revenue from its wireless unit.
