Hercules™ safety microcontrollers are based on Texas Instrument's 20+ years of safety-critical system expertise, industry collaboration and proven hardware for the automotive market. The platform consists of three ARM® Cortex™-based microcontroller families (RM4, TMS570 and TMS470M) that deliver scalable performance, connectivity, memory and safety features. Unlike many microcontrollers that rely heavily on software for safety capabilities, Hercules™ microcontrollers implement safety in hardware to maximize performance and reduce software overhead.
The Hercules™ RM4x Safety MCU family enables customers to easily develop safety critical industrial and medical applications. Developed to meet the requirements the IEC 61508 SIL-3 safety standard, the ARM® Cortex™-R4F based RM48x offers up to 220MHz of floating point performance providing more than 350 DMIPS. With integrated safety features, advanced connectivity options, and flexible real-time control peripherals, the RM4x family is an ideal solution for industrial and medical applications with specific safety requirements.
The Hercules™ TMS570LS Safety MCU family enables customers to easily develop safety-critical products for transportation applications. Developed to meet the requirements of the ISO 26262 ASIL-D and IEC 61508 SIL-3 safety standards and qualified to the AEC-Q100 automotive specification this ARM® Cortex™-R4F based family offers several options of performance, memory and connectivity. Dual core lockstep CPU architecture, hardware BIST, MPU, ECC and on-chip clock and voltage monitoring are some of the key functional safety features available to meet the needs of automotive, railway and aerospace applications.
The Hercules™ TMS470M microcontroller family enables developers to easily create safety-related applications for the transportation industry. The TMS470M value-line microcontrollers use the ARM® Cortex™-M3 CPU running at 80MHz and offer Flash memory options ranging from 256KB to 640KB (including up to 128KB EEPROM emulation capability) and RAM memory ranging from 16KB to 64KB. With built-in safety features like CPU and RAM self test (BIST) engines, error correction code (ECC) and parity-checking, the devices are a great extension to the Hercules Safety MCU platform.
