Vishay Semiconductor/Diodes Division offers a series of surface-mount, TRANSZORB, bi-directional transient voltage suppressors (TVS) in the SMC DO-214AB package. Offering twice the surge capability of conventional 1.5 KW devices in SMC packages, the SMC3K series devices increase design flexibility and compatibility. The TVS’ low-stress, symmetric lead frame designs provide the high reliability required for automotive applications.
Vishay has designed these suppressors to protect sensitive electronic equipment against voltage transients induced by system inductive load switching and lightning. The AEC-Q101-qualified devices are suitable for LNB and telecom power line lightning surge protection, and automotive motor and battery power line inductive surge protection.
The SMC3K series consists of 19 TVS devices with stand-off voltages from 22 V to 78 V. The devices offer a peak pulse surge current from 23.8 A to 84.5 A, maximum clamping voltage from 35.5 V to 126 V. They also feature very fast response times, low incremental surge resistance, and operating temperature from -55°C to +150°C.
The series meets the MSL Level 1 standard, per J-STD-020, LF maximum peak of 260°C. The RoHS compliant TVS devices are halogen-free, according to the IEC 61249-2-21 definition and comply with WEEE 2002/96/EC. TVS with a stand-off voltage of 33 V and below are also compliant with the IEC61000-4-5, 6 KV (Zs = 12 Ω) lightning surge tests.
