STMicroelectronics and Digi-Key introduce the VIPerPlus smart off-line converters

VIPer1X and VIPer2x ConvertersVIPerPlus smart off-line converters from STMicroelectronics feature a rugged 800 V power section, PWM control, and protection circuitry. Soft start and safe auto restart after fault detection removal are inherent. The VIPER16/17/27/28 offer fixed frequency operation at 60 kHz or 115 kHz, while the VIPER15/25 have Quasi-resonant control. Extremely low standby power consumption allows the VIPerPlus family to meet regulatory energy savings standards. With maximum RDS(on) of 24 ohms, the VIPer family is capable of delivering 5 W of output power in adapter application and 7 W in open frame configuration from universal 85 VAC to 265 VAC Line.

Overview

ST’s VIPerPlus series of high-voltage converters combine the innovative avalanche-rugged SuperMESH(TM) power MOSFET with state-of-the-art PWM circuitry. The result is truly innovative AC-DC conversion that is efficient, simpler, quicker and - with component count halved - less expensive. 

In addition to benefits such as optimized current-mode control and comprehensive built-in protection circuits, the VIPerPlus family represents the easiest solution to comply with the Blue Angel and Energy Star eco norms, with extremely low total power consumption from the mains when the system is in standby mode.
