Image of STMicroelectronics' STM8S 8-bit MCU FamilyThe STM8S family is the start of a new generation of 8-bit MCUs offering up to 20 MIPS performance from its advanced STM8 core. Its 130 nm embedded non-volatile memory is among the most advanced technologies currently in use with 8-bit MCUs.

The rich set of available peripherals supports accurate control and monitoring in a broad range of products such as home appliances, HVAC systems, industrial automation, power tools, personal-care equipment, and systems for power control and management. Developers can choose the STM8S10x Access Line with 16 MHz CPU frequency and up to 32 Kbyte Flash, or the STM8S20x Performance Line, which operates at 24 MHz and up to 128 Kbyte Flash. Package options range from small form factor 20- to 80-pin packages. ST's open-source touch-sensing software library transforms any STM8S MCU into a capacitive touch-key controller enabling developers to combine touch sensing functions, such as touch keys, wheels or sliders. Developers targeting the STM8S family also benefit from the free peripheral firmware libraries, the ST Visual Develop (STVD) IDE and ST Visual Programmer (STVP) Integrated development evironment, starter kits, evaluation boards and debug tools.
