Stackpole’s RNCS series of passivated Nichrome chip resistors are an ideal low-cost alternative for expensive and hard-to-find tantalum nitride chip resistors. Using a superior substrate material, a unique proprietary Nichrome alloy, and a special hydrophobic polymer inner passivation, the RNCS series exhibit performance similar to tantalum nitride solutions.
Some customers or applications require operation in humid or high moisture environments or have experienced corrosion problems with standard Nichrome thin film resistors. For those customers long term extended humidity testing is essential before a part can be considered for usage on a design. The RNCS series has now surpassed 3000 hours of 95°C/90% humidity testing at low power loading.
The RNCS series is available in sizes 0603, 0805, and 1206, with resistance values from 10 Ω to 1 MΩ, with 0.1% tolerance and 25 ppm TCR standard. This series also offers outstanding electrical and environmental stability, which would be expected from a precision resistor.
The RNCS series employs a special manufacturing process to ensure high precision, ultra stable performance, and long life in the harshest environments. In moisture comparison testing the RNCS series outperformed Nichrome Chip Resistors and demonstrated the anti-corrosive claims characterized by Tantalum Nitride resistor products.
