KEMET's Ceramic Business Group is pleased to announce the addition of large case sizes to our FT-CAP (Flexible Termination) product portfolio. Flexible termination is now available in case sizes 1808 thru 2225 in X7R dielectric.
Since large case size chips are more susceptible to cracking during board assembly and handling, the combination of large chips with flexible termination is an elemental step in flex mitigation. Flexible termination adds pliability to the end termination, minimizing the transfer of board flex stress to the component body.
The FT-CAP is a surface mount multi-layer ceramic capacitor that incorporates a unique and flexible termination system. Integrated with KEMET's standard termination materials, a conductive silver epoxy is utilized between the conductive metallization and nickel barrier finish in order to establish pliability while maintaining terminal strength, solderability and electrical performance. This technology directs board flex stress away from the ceramic body and into the termination area. As a result, this termination system mitigates the risk of low-IR or short-circuit failures associated with board flex.
The FT-CAP complements our current "Open Mode," "Floating Electrode (FE-CAP)" and "Flexible Termination w/Floating Electrode (FF-CAP)" product lines by providing our customers with a complete portfolio of flex solutions.
The FT-CAP is now being offered in case sizes ranging from EIA 0603 up to EIA 2225, in voltage offerings of 6.3 to 200VDC. Combined with the stability of an X7R dielectric, this technology offers customers a flexible, robust solution for high capacitance devices with an operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C with zero bias capacitance shift limited to ±15% over that range. Capacitance tolerances offered include J (±5%), K (±10%) and M (±20%).
These capacitors meet the requirements of the Automotive Electronics Council's AEC-Q200-Rev. C and are available in both Commercial and Automotive grades.
